A highly motivated and creative graphic designer. I am an ambitious and innovative individual that has gained relevant experience from both the university and industry. I have worked, and feel comfortable, in a wide range of mediums from web design to print and can demonstrate these capabilities efficiently in a working environment alongside a team or independently. I pride myself on my ability to think outside the box, problem solve and explore new skills.
/// WORK & EXPERIENCE
The Digital Nomads (November 2018 to Present) Throughout 2018 I built up a relationship with a talented Web Developer, over the course of a few months we had discussed the logistics of starting our own business combing our skills. I decided to take this opportunity after being informed Beacon Water Treatments, a company I had previously worked at, were offering part-time work. The Digital Nomads offer a range of services, from Graphic design to Web design and SEO, splitting the work between myself and my business partner. Running the company has been a huge learning curve, juggling day to day work alongside teaching myself to manage the books and invoices, as well as bringing in new clients. I feel the experiences it has given me over the past 6 months are some that I would not have been able to achieve in my previous role. I am much more self-assured when communicating with clients, I also have a far better understanding of efficiently and cost, effectively managing time-scales.
Studio 4 (January 2016 to November 2018) The Studio 4 is a marketing agency based in Telford. After completing various work experience positions with the company I was I offered a graphic design position. The work I carried out here was hugely varied and involved a variety of techniques creating everything from logos to animation and web design. The majority of jobs were self-managed from concept to completion, communicating with the client throughout the process. The Studio 4‘s primary client, Gerflor, was one of my biggest responsibilities. I met with the UK marketing manager on a weekly basis in order to produce new campaigns and artwork in various styles. In November 2018 my artwork for Gerflors Taralay Impression control range was short-listed for “Best use of Advertising” by the Construction Marketing Awards. The Studio 4 also carries out publication design and production for their sister company Tanner Stiles Publishers. I was responsible for the magazines LAPU, Professional Horticulture and PSBS of which I managed all aspects of design, proofing and daily communication with the sales team to ensure a smooth production. Working in this high speed and ever changing environment helped me learn to react to different challenges with ease, increased my creative ability and to become overall more adaptable.
Bang+Strike (July 2015 – December 2015) Bang + Strike is an online retailer of men’s clothing. My roles within the company included social media posts across all platforms, designing and scheduling e-bulletins, and all graphic design work for the website. As my first graphic design position after university, I was able to practically demonstrate the knowledge and skills gained throughout my degree as well as expand upon them. Developing skills that cannot be attained through university such as, communicating with and managing clients. After leaving the company I retained my relationship and continued to design blog graphics on a weekly basis for a number of years.
Clothing Line (2013 – 2017) In 2013 I started my own clothing label, a company that I promoted and marketed. I also created a web platform and chose to manufacture and design the products myself which enabled me to learn a number of different printing processes. This afforded me the opportunity to establish my own printing studio. The brand evolved a number of times and moved towards an outdoors and environmentally friendly ethic. Communicating with printers and wholesalers has given me invaluable knowledge and experience of the industry. A more in-depth knowledge of printing processes has enabled me to create artwork sympathetic to these methods.
Bbranded (2014) – Bbranded is a vinyl and embroidery printing company who commissioned me to redraw their customer’s logos and designs if they weren’t in the appropriate vector format. This increased my technical abilities in design programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
The Handy Crafts Man (2013) – The Handy Crafts Man created gifts, furniture, and clothing. My role was to redraw graphics into vector format for the vinyl cutter and laser cutter.
